Swiss, World no. 1 Roger Federer beat Former world no. 1 Pete Sampras in the 2nd , of a series of three exhibition matches, which took place on Thursday 22nd Nov 2007 at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam, Malaysia. Federer won the closely fought match in just under 90mins, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5). Their age difference became the decisive factor – at 26, Federer vs. Sampras, now 36 and retired from professional tennis in 2002 after winning the U.S. Open. Tickets for the Clash of Titans, which was part of the 50th Merdeka Celebration, were completely sold out!

A smash in Malaysia: Clash of Titans featured world number two and three-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal, against France’s top player and Wimbledon semi-finalist Richard Gasquet on Nov 20, at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam. The two tennis stars performed aggressively during the exhibition match, in front of some 5,000 spectators. Rafael Nadal would not let the crowd down and defeated the Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Thanks to the Ministry of Youths and Sports, tennis fans in Malaysia were able to see this memorable match live for the very first time.
